What is a DMO®?

It is a fabric-based orthosis made of an elastomeric material. It can cover large parts of the body surface, such as a suit, or it can be made to cover just an arm or leg. It is worn next to the skin under clothing which makes it highly interactive with the wearer.

DMO®’s are individually designed, with custom/patented reinforcement added to all orthoses they produce in the DMO® Custom range and pre-sized DMO® Essentials ranges.

The DMO® Custom range is made-to-measure. They will fit the body well and are able to meet the neurological and functional needs of each individual person. Each DMO® can have more or less reinforcement and non-standard zips and fastenings can be added.

How do they work?

DM Orthotics products work using strategically placed panelling which improves body alignment. This new positioning stimulates sensory systems throughout the body and re-programmes the brain, ensuring that muscles operate in their new state of optimal alignment.

DMO® are clinically proven and backed by evidence-based research. Here are some of the key facts.

  • Some patients have been able to reduce or stop their pain medication plan due to the benefits of wearing their DMO® orthoses
  • Research accreditation and evidence across some of our orthoses including the DMO® scoliosis suit
  • Successful results recorded for both children and adults across all ages
  • Paralympic athletes achieving gold medal success with some saying this has been aided through the wearing of our orthoses
  • International partnerships worldwide

Why choose a Dynamic Movement Orthosis® (DMO®)?

Depending on your situation you may have other options open to you such as rigid bracing or online generic soft orthosis. It is important to remember your practitioner may be prescribing targeted exercises, lifestyle advice, and physical therapies to aid in helping you reach your health goals. A key advantage of the soft orthosis, if suitable for you, is the flexibility so you can still move around freely. Your DMO® will ensure that you maintain correct postural alignment whilst you carry out your physical therapies or exercise.
